Staff from CRCOG were joined by a dozen or so volunteers (including Mayor Bronin and his family) to install a demonstration project at the corner of Main Street and Charter Oak in Hartford on September 28. The demonstration project was a painted curb extension with flexible posts along the edge. The purpose of the project was to shorten the crossing distance across Charter Oak (it ended up being roughly 25% shorter) and to a lesser extent Main Street. It also has the effect of slowing cars as they turn from Main to Charter Oak, increasing safety for all users.
We also went over to South Prospect Street to add some flexible delineaters to the crosswalk at Pulaski Mall.
Thanks to the City of Hartford for letting us try this out, as well as all the great volunteers!
