About the Project

This project assisted a group of Capitol Region communities with the analysis of existing zoning regulations and the creation of  model sustainable land use codes. It is also hoped that this set of model codes will be able to serve as solid examples for other communities throughout the Knowledge Corridor region and beyond.

The objectives of this project are to:

  • Identify gaps and barriers to sustainable development in existing municipal codes
  • Establish model land use codes, regulations, municipal policies and/or ordinances
  • Conduct public education and outreach to define communities’ vision for implementing sustainable & livable community techniques thereby minimizing barriers to implementation

An assessment of local land use regulations in twelve Capitol Region Communities is not complete and model regulations are currently being drafted.

Please see the listing below and click on each topic to download the model regulation. A link to the complete booklet is also available at the bottom of this list. In addition to compiling this booklet of regulations, a set of renderings was created to help communities visualize the physical impact of implenting these regulations in their communities.  These visualizations are also available at the bottom of the list of regulations.  The visualizations were created for Urban, Suburban and Rural Communities at both the bird’s eye view and the street-level view. Finally, don’t forget to check out the video on this project on the Sustainable Capitol Region YouTube Channel.
